An ethnographic study on work from home during the COVID-19 pandemic: time to reflect and introspect

This article presents ethnographic accounts detailing the experiences of working professionals in India amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The study systematically examines the constructive and adverse effects of the relentless pandemic within both work and home environments.
About 32 in-depth interviews were conducted to elicit nuanced insights into the life experiences of working professionals enrolled in the Executive Masters in Business Administration (MBA) program at a business school in Pune City, Maharashtra, India, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection spanned three months, from March to June 2022. Employing ethnographic research methods, this study rigorously analyzed self-narratives to delve into the intricate life experiences of these professionals during the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The respondents testimonies provide profound reflections on the multifaceted effects of COVID-19 on both their professional and personal lives. Contributors candidly disclose their individual sentiments, the ramifications of the pandemic, the associated benefits, encountered challenges and strategies employed for risk management. The findings reveal a nuanced spectrum of both positive and negative facets of the pandemic.
The study asserts that the majority of life experiences underscore the pivotal lesson that the pandemic has taught individuals, the art of adapting to adversity and persevering through challenging times.
